Rolio Review

With it being so easy to be overwhelmed by so many different pieces of news, Rolio streamlines the whole thing, making it that bit easier to see what's going on at a glance. It's probably not as fast as you'd like, but it does the job.

A brief sign up process starts things off, although there is on peculiar issue. During sign up, every time I chose female as my gender, the app would bounce back to male. In the end, I decided it didn't really matter and stuck with male, but it's not a problem I've seen elsewhere.

Once you're all signed up (and changed your gender briefly), Rolio is pretty straight forward to use. By hitting the plus sign you can choose to add various different sources to the main feed. Rolio divides things up according to genre, such as political news, technology, celebrity gossip, and so forth. Throw in plenty of different feeds and things can seem a little messy. Fortunately (although not clearly explained) you can hold a finger to an entry and choose to add it to a group, making it easier to split things up according to your tastes.

Things improve once you figure this out, making it much easier to use Rolio kind of like a series of Twitter lists. You can choose to browse through possible options, as well as search for specifics (such as our fine site!), so there's plenty of variety here.

Tapping on each entry, however, never feels particularly speedy and refreshing feeds takes time. It's a relatively small issue, but speed is of the essence when you just want to quickly check in on everything. After a while you might find yourself less keen to use Rolio when a series of Twitter lists for major websites will work that much faster.
