Now that Christmas is upon us, I would like to make note of a simple yet polished app that allows children to decorate their own Christmas tree. Apps like this are not the most unique idea to hit iTunes, but Bogga Christmas Tree delivers a colorful and thoughtfully stylized version of this holiday app. \
As one may expect, here children will have a chance to select from a variety of tree-related objects like stands, as well as all the Christmas accoutrements one could hope for such as lights, a large variety of ball ornaments and other shapes, candy canes, gingerbread men, and other festive choices like red ribbons, mistletoe, and more.
A favorite element of mine is adding tinsel to trees with the drag of a finger, which I find quite satisfying, complete with a subtle wrap-around effect that creates a sense of dimension that I appreciate. There is also a chance to dim the ambient lighting to bring out the beauty of the Christmas lights that can be added to the tree. Although I quite like the dark blue background used, complete with a simple snowflake pattern, it is also nice that children can create their own backdrop using the camera function of their iPhone or iPad. Likewise, one can customize an ornament much the same way. Two music choices are also included that I found easy to listen to, with muting these tunes also being an option.
It would be nice, however, if one could move a detail around the tree with the drag of a finger instead of removing each object with a touched once it has been placed. Even with this minor note, apps like these allow children to decorate with pleasure using any or all decorations without running out of items to choose from or dealing with wires or other aspects that prevent them from trimming their own trees safely without any help from an adult.
I can imagine children excited about Christmas using Bogga Christmas Tree to entertain themselves while out and about and beyond, complete with being able to take a photo of their work to admire later. It makes this a holiday app worth recommending for families with young children, even with the inclusion of an add for other apps by this developer on the opening page of this app – something I would prefer tucked away in the parents’ section.
