Let's just get this out of the way: you can't add mustaches to people's faces in Hipstify. It's not that kind of hipster app. Instead, it's a photo filtering app that leans towards the kind of things that so-called hipsters like. Really though, despite the name, anyone could find it useful.
Taking you step by step through a process, Hipstify is a little restrictive with its options, but then again it's hardly expensive – even when buying the full feature pack for $1.99. A choice of coloring filters starts you off, adding different shades of color, strobe style effects, or simply placing focus on a particular part of the image. Some are more successful than others, and it would have been useful if you could adjust the effect gradually rather than be stuck with the default settings.
The next step is the more hipster style thing of including a slogan or logo. You can throw in things like a 'YOLO', motivational lines such as 'In the end, we only regret the chances we don't take' or just a simple icon. The urge to add custom text is strong here but the selection is pretty varied, at least. Photo framing and adding a vignette effect completes the package, again being simple yet effective in framing your imagery in an attractive manner.
The issue throughout, however, is that Hipstify is pretty rigid with its options. You can't adjust much through subtle tweaks or add custom text to anything, which will grate after a time. The frames are pretty varied, with some great number-based ones that are handy for certain images, but it's the filters that let Hipstify down in terms of originality.
Still, Hipstify is free for a fair few options, with $1.99 unlocking the full selection. So the entry price is far from expensive for what it offers, even if you will eventually want more flexibility.
