Loose Leaf Review

Despite the technological innovations, there's something that remains satisfying about putting pen to paper to doodle or take notes about something. Sketching out an idea simply feels more natural by going this route. Loose Leaf goes some way in emulating such an experience by allowing you to do precisely that through your iPad.

A series of drawings take you through the tutorial of the app, and they're quite pleasant compared to rigid menus. Experimentation will help you more in figuring things out at times, but Loose Leaf is mostly quite intuitive. A series of simple icons guide you through the different options such as drawing, erasing, cutting, and importing images from your camera roll.

You can pinch inwardly or outwardly in order to switch between one sketch and your entire collection. There's no way to divide things up according to album, but as a bundle of paper to browse through, Loose Leaf does the job. It's quite pleasantly satisfying when it comes to switching between different pieces of papers, giving a sense of tactility to the whole experience.

Loose Leaf also remains a touch on the basic side when it comes to its drawing options. While there's a simple ruler/protractor tool for making shapes, there are no options for frequently used shapes. It's also not quite as obviously laid out when it comes to changing colors or moving images around, although once you figure it out it's fine. The ability to enter or import text would have also been convenient here.

Redeeming itself with simple options for sharing content with others, Loose Leaf remains a useful option for sketching out ideas. While not perfect, it's speedy and effective enough to be handy when trying to flesh stuff out.
