What parents need to know
Parents need to know that Morning Kids is an incentive-driven morning routine tool. Kids can personalize their avatar, decide on a long-term incentive (prize), and create tasks to help make the morning routine go faster. Parents can choose from a list of 10 preloaded tasks or create new ones using photos, audio, or video. The tool is available in multiple languages, including English, Bokm?l, Norwegian, Danish, French, German, Spanish, and Swedish. Morning Kids may be especially beneficial for kids who need help with executive functioning skills like prioritizing, time management, and goal-setting or for users who need help staying engaged in morning activities. What kids can learn
Cartoon graphics and avatars help make Morning Kids an engaging tool for morning routines. Incentives can be created by parents and kids can earn coins and stars based on how they complete the morning tasks. It provides instant feedback and congratulations on a job well done at the end of each completed routine.
Morning Kids provides multiple ways for kids to understand the tasks in their morning routine. Using positive reinforcement (coins and stars), kids are more likely to complete the tasks correctly and within the designated time frame.
There is a link to a support video on the starting page. The video is five minutes long and shows how to use Morning Kids from start to finish. The developer's website, however, is in Dutch and will need to be translated into other languages by an internet browser.
What's it about?
Users create a new profile and add activities to the required task list in MORNING KIDS. During this setup screen, players (parents or kids) can incorporate a minimum or maximum time associated with each activity. Parents can decide on a prize for kids to earn based on the number of consecutive days Morning Kids is used. Kids can then select their avatar or photo, complete their routine, and earn coins. Staying close to the minimum or maximum time earns kids more coins, which will then earn them a higher level rating.
Is it any good?
Morning Kids is an engaging way for kids to complete their typical morning routines. Because it includes personalized images, audio, and videos along with many incentives, it's likely to engage even reluctant kids. The developers suggest an age range of 6-8, but also include social media share options that are not appropriate for that age group. Some parents may not want to have kids earn tangible prizes for using the app successfully, so make sure to talk with your kids about your expectations, and theirs.
Families can talk about...
-
Families can talk about what rewards kids can earn when completing their morning routines on time for a certain number of days in a row. How long should each task take? What will they earn and how long will it take to earn it?.
-
Talk about earning rewards for completing everyday tasks versus doing them because they need to get done: Will they earn prizes every time, forever? If using incentives doesn't work for your family, what are some other ways to motivate your kids?
-
Kids can create a new "fun" activity to break up a long morning routine. For instance, including a mini-dance party between getting dressed and making the bed might shake up a morning routine and help kids push through to the end of their activities.
