LearnMe Calendar

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that LearnMe Calendar is a basic calendar app to help kids understand the days of the week and months of the year. Kids who are struggling with the concepts of today, tomorrow, and yesterday can clearly see the dates marked. You can increase the rigor in the settings to reinforce writing answers in complete sentences using correct punctuation. The app is also helpful for kids who struggle with executive functioning skills as kids can add dates of homework or tests right in the calendar. The interface and mechanics are awkward and some games -- like dragging and dropping holidays onto a calendar -- don't always function correctly.

What kids can learn

Engagement

Simple, outdated interface includes a real voice that responds with correct answer. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but give kids a visual understanding calendar skills.

Learning Approach

Practicing with drag-and-drop games reinforces the days of the week and months of the year. At the most challenging level, kids also practice writing in complete sentences.

Support

Simple directions are included in the app, but it's not been updated since 2012.

What's it about?

LEARNME CALENDAR is a basic entry level calendar app that helps kids differentiate from today, tomorrow, and yesterday. Kids practice days of the week, matching months, and writing answers to questions using complete sentences. The app does track the child's progress and has a real voice that responds to the child's answers. It can benefit kids who need to enter due dates and other school activities to help them prioritize and stay on task.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

The goals of the games are to learn months, days, seasons, and holidays, but since it hasn't been updated in a few years, the holiday dates for the current year are off. Dragging static holiday dates, like New Year's Day, onto the calendar results in a "wrong" answer message. Also, the drag-and-drop functionality is glitchy and awkward. The simple interface and games may appeal to some kids and work better for those who are distracted by fancy graphics and animations, but most kids won't be enticed and might be frustrated.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about important dates in their family, like birth dates, and enter those on the calendar together.

  • Ask your child: What tday of the week is it? What day is tomorrow? Are any holidays coming up?
