Requiring reasonably speedy reactions, The Hardest Flight doesn't quite live up to its name (there are harder games out there, by a long shot). But that doesn't stop it being a diverting way of spending five minutes.
You have to control a ship as it attempts to negotiate various colored barriers. Controls are very simple: you tilt the iOS device to move the ship around and hold a finger to the left turning the ship blue, while holding a finger to the right turns it to pink. Don't touch anything and your ship remains purple, the default color. The key here is to keep moving your ship around, while also changing color at the right moment in order to pass through barriers.
It's an immensely simple idea but one that will infuriate early on as you attempt to improve upon your earlier scores. The Hardest Flight appreciates this, meaning restarts are fairly speedy, which encourages you to keep playing. At first you'll just be happy to get a few points on the scoreboard, but gradually you come to realize that The Hardest Flight isn't as hard as the name suggests.
Keep on playing and it becomes quite intuitive, if occasionally frustrating as the barriers get smaller and the pace speeds up. The best thing to do is react instinctively rather than dare to think about what you're going to do next.
Eventually you'll reach a plateau with your scores and find your attention waning, but the ride is fun enough that it's still worth taking a look at The Hardest Flight. It lacks a colorblind mode and it's a little too heavy on the ads front, but for a mindless yet twitchy delight, it scratches the itch.
