Previously a PC and WiiWare indie hit (albeit with an extra 'And' at the start of its name), Yet It Moves has made the natural move to iOS. Issues with its brevity seem less like a big deal in a mobile format, although its controls are occasionally an irritant.
Fundamentally, Yet It Moves is a side-scrolling platformer that has you helping a sketch figure to make his way back to the piece of paper he's been cut from. No, I'm not sure why either, but it forms the basis of a fun concept. You can move left or right by holding a finger to either side of the screen, but everything else comes down to rotating the world. This is done through a hold and drag motion which, unfortunately, often interferes with movement.
When it works well, it works brilliantly. You can leap from platform to platform by a flick of the world rotation, as well as get through some very narrow gaps. Just as you think you've mastered it though, you get things slightly wrong and everything becomes a mess – all because the two methods of control are too similar. The little guy’s pretty sensitive when it comes to falling too far or being hit by a rock, so this combined with fussy controls can detract from the fun.
On the plus side, Yet It Moves is an enjoyable enough title that you'll put up with it. There are 17 reasonably weighty levels that might have seemed brief on the PC, but seem quite significant on your iOS device. Puzzles are frequently logical an satisfying to complete, if eventually a bit samey. The iOS version also comes with a daily run mode so you can compete with friends, adding some longevity to the experience.
It's those fussy controls that mostly stop Yet It Moves from being a true gem of a game, but it doesn't stop it from being really quite entertaining when it works.
