Superchroma is a game focused on exploration and grinding. It's the kind of spaceship exploration game that lends itself well to short doses of play. That's assuming it doesn't crash at regular intervals, however.
One of its major marketing points is that Superchroma is aimed specifically at Metal devices. That means that, while it'll be a bit sluggish on older devices, the iPad Air, iPad Mini Retina, and iPhone 5s should still see it in all its shining glory. In my experience the iPhone 5 understandably struggles a LOT, while the iPad Mini Retina merely crashes every now and then. That's not a great improvement though, and gives the impression that Superchroma is very much a work in progress.
Working on the basis of things being different every time you play, Superchroma is all about chipping away at missions, slowly leveling-up, and mostly shooting anything that moves. You have a base too, which can have its own turrets upgraded as well as help you improve your ship on the whole.
There's a fair amount to do here, even if the gameplay is roughly the same as at the start – fly towards a target and destroy it. A kind of radar gives you a heads-up on how near you are to your target but there's always plenty to do in the meantime with a flurry of enemies in your way. Chipping away at that experience bar and collecting coins should encourage you, too.
Superchroma takes a little too long to get going in order to truly grip you, though. Plus it just doesn't feel that stable. There's the potential for something that could hook you for a long time but it lacks some much needed personality, and then it'll crash again and annoy you.
