Combing Sudoku and Picrosse comes Logic Dots: a fairly enjoyable puzzle game that's all about placing dots on a grid. It's simple to learn but can prove to be quite tricky after a time.
Each level is a square grid full of tiles. In those tiles, you place either a square or a dot. Each line needs to have a set number of dots in them, often in a particular arrangement. Squares are placed as a marker to remind yourself that nothing else needs to be placed there. It's an easy format to follow and Logic Dots eases you in gently by starting with a 4 x 4 grid, then gradually increasing.
You’ll learn strategies that work well in a short space of time, such as blanking out the lines with a zero next to them as they're redundant. Such strategies soon become essential if you want any chance of succeeding in later levels, where the grids can eventually end up as big as 12 x 12. There's a reasonably steady supply of hints made available to you, but that's because you're going to need them. Even with multiple solutions possible it's far from easy. It’s rewarding to figure out though, if sometimes quite long-winded. Bear in mind that if you quit fully out of the game (either deliberately or because you got distracted by other apps) you’ll lose your progress, which can grate when the levels are much larger. The ability to quick-save solutions is welcome, though.
Logic Dots promises to be entirely free if you want it to be by using hints to unlock level packs. I suspect this will lead to a certain amount of grinding, but I wouldn't begrudge unlocking the packs through in-app purchases. There's a decent amount of content from each of them, and Logic Dots is easily the kind of game you'll find yourself dipping back into at regular points.
