Gunslugs 2 is hectic, and messy, and did I mention hectic? It's an over-the-top shooter that's heavily dependent on you collecting a lot of stuff and shooting everything that moves. Switch your brain off, and it's pretty fun.
A lot like shooters of old, you run and gun from left to right while taking out everything in your wake. Although Gunslugs 2 does have a few tricks up its sleeve, such as the randomly-generated areas that mix things up a little. Ultimately though, shooting everything that moves is key here. There are a ton of explosions too, to the point that you're going to lose track of what's going on but that's ok. Gunslugs 2 isn't about subtlety.
Enemies come in vast numbers and simply tapping causes you to shoot at them. Ammo is metered at all times but luckily there are always plenty of ammo drops to ensure you've got a cool new weapon at frequent points in the game. Similarly, Gunslugs 2 isn't a game where you should expect to avoid damage, but a plentiful supply of health means this isn't such a big deal.
The final significant collectible is coins that can be used to buy boosts such as shields and health upgrades, all of which are available at shops at regular points during the game.
Gunslugs 2 is consistently fast paced, at times almost exhaustingly so, but it is a fun way to kick back and relax. Once you've blasted your way through the story mode there's an arcade mode offering you just one life, so it should challenge you for a while to come, too. Just don't expect any subtle nuances or to remember it for any length of time. It's very much in your face, like an 1980s action movie.
