Luna League Soccer is the kind of soccer game that you'll dive into for a few minutes here and there, but not exactly think too deeply about. It's an arcade sports game through and through, meaning it takes seconds to master.

lunaleague4On the left of the screen you have a floating joystick, while the right offers a contextual button that enables you to shoot, pass, tackle, or switch players depending on what's going on during the match. It's very simple to pick up, with each team bringing their own special moves to the fold.

Besides the Quick Match mode, there's a Penalties game that involves you swiping and sliding to either line up a shot or defend your goal mouth. Somewhat annoyingly, Luna League Soccer's menus offer up a tournament mode, as well as multiplayer, but neither is available yet; a 'coming soon' message leaves you slightly cheated instead. Still, Quick Match offers enough for now, plus you can level-up your team to gain new skills and unlock new teams.

lunaleague1Each team offers a glimpse of personality too, with each acting slightly differently and being quite well animated. You're bound to end up preferring certain ones to others, but it does mix things up a little. Luna League Soccer often manages to be slightly less shallow than you'd think, but it’s also nowhere near as deep as you'd hope.

Luna League Soccer won't fascinate for hugely long because of those issues. That means those extra modes could do with being implemented soon, but as a free app it's worth a look. It's fairly free of in-app purchases (you can choose to remove the ads or unlock everything at once, but none of it is restrictively done), and it’s quite charming in its simplicity.
