Rather suitably, given the robotic themes, Ironkill feels a bit clunky for a fighting game. Although for brief, freemium-based thrills it'd probably be fine for those just looking for something different. Fighting game fans should beware, though.

Offering a level-based structure, much like most other freemium games, you'll be working your way through increasingly tricky fights. Combat is fairly rudimentary. On-screen buttons representing a quick attack, heavy attack, and block dictate the bulk of the action. There's a special move button too, which activates a stun attack and freezes your enemy for a moment. A flurry of combos is best here, but all too often you'll feel slightly removed from the action due to a slight delay. This is where Ironkill is at its most clunky.

ironkill6ironkill7By offering reasonably short battles, Ironkill does lend itself to the casual market. There's also an upgrade system to partake in. This is done through gaining money by winning, and also waiting it out due to various timers. Such upgrades do make a noticeable difference, at least. Plus, for the sake of feeling smug with yourself, there are plenty of stars to gain. It's all the usual thing that we've seen through other casual freemium games, and it goes some way to distracting you from the somewhat bland main event.

Ultimately though, the lackluster fighting means you'll still be a bit disappointed outside of the management side of things. It's just not as fun as it should be. Your star rating is graded depending on how little damage you take during a fight, but all too often you'll feel restricted by the sluggish controls rather than your own inadequacies.

Ironkill might be ok for those not used to fighting games and taking a step away from the usual freemium fare, but anyone looking for something more thrilling will be quite disappointed.
