It's the visual style of Go To Bed: Survive The Night that's going to grab your attention first. It's eye-catchingly sinister in tone, indicating that Halloween week was the ideal time for it to arrive on the App Store. It sounds spooky too, and will eventually creep you out. Unfortunately though, it's actually a pretty shallow game that doesn't take advantage of its premise.

Your sole aim in Go To Bed: Survive The Night is to protect a small boy from the many monsters that are trying to get him as he lay in his bed. Sinister hands edge their way towards him from the shadows, as well as other creatures, and you can vanquish them with a tap. One kind of creature can't be cleared that way, but otherwise it's very straightforward.

Each level offers a strict timer for how long you have to survive before moving onto the next one. As you progress, things get tougher and the waves of enemies become larger and faster. However, while the scenery might change the core idea really doesn't. There's a harder Mum Rush mode to unlock, but it doesn't change things up significantly.

bed7There are power-ups in the form of toys to use. These are gained through squashing the spiders that appear as you play, and can then be put towards passive one-off upgrades. They're convenient but don't really add much to what's expected of you.

That's the problem with Go To Bed: Survive The Night. It's all a little too simplistic. It might look great and really capture the nervousness that many children have felt while in bed at night, but it's not enough to make you want to play for any great length of time. It's a passing treat but ultimately a little forgettable in the end.
