What parents need to know
Parents need to know that? Peekaboo? Barn Farm Day features the same animals from the popular preschool app? Peekaboo Barn? on a typical (if silly) day at the farm. Kids wake the animals with a rooster's crow, take care of them throughout the day, and then put them to sleep after the sun goes down. The animals on the farm include a dog, cat, cow, sheep, duck, chicken, pig, and llama. On-screen prompts encourage kids to tap and explore. Parents may want to encourage kids to tap the sun to see what happens once they've played through taking care of the animals so they don't miss out on the sweet fun of petting the animals to sleep. What kids can learn
The familiarity of the farm animals and the fun of taking care of them, along with a bit of silliness and sweetness, will keep kids engaged. The design is adorable, incorporating dawn, day, and night into the play.
Kids learn through playing and exploring, and there's no wrong way to play. Not all of the experiences are necessarily realistic -- such as bathing a pig or feeding a dog sugar cubes -- but they're delightfully fun.
On-screen prompts show kids where to tap and what to do for most parts. No reading or verbal cues are involved, so all kids can play.
What's it about?
Kids start by tapping the stars in the night sky to make them disappear, which makes the rooster crow to wake the animals. During farm day, kids feed the animals by dragging them the right food -- the food they're thinking about in thought bubbles. Kids shear the sheep and llama, bathe several animals -- including the pig, and milk the cow. They can take care of the animals as long as they want, but when they're ready, kids can tap the sun to make it set and then put the animals to bed, petting them until they curl up and fall asleep.
Is it any good?
PEEKABOO BARN FARM DAY lets kids explore a day on the farm with a touch of silly whimsy that will delight toddlers and preschoolers. The three parts of the app each offer different fun experiences: tapping the stars as night ends, taking care of the animals during the day, and then putting them to bed. The bulk of the activity is in the daytime caretaking, with four activities. Though the animals cycle through some of the activities, they do get repetitive pretty quickly (although the routine might get old on a real farm, too). It's easy to miss the cues to tap the sun, so be sure kids do that because putting the animals to sleep is utterly sweet. As kids pet each animal, hearts float around, and the animal's eyes get heavy until they finally curl up in sleep. Then the cycle starts again, returning to the starry night waiting for the rooster's crow.
Families can talk about...
-
Families can talk about what's real and what's silly on this farm. Do sheep wear polka-dotted underwear? Is that real or silly? Do people milk cows? Is that real or silly?
-
Show kids some wool clothing so they can see how the wool from the llama and sheep are ultimately used.

Visit a real-life working farm in your area. Ask your kids: Are some of the animals the same as in the app? What are some different animals you recognize?
