What parents need to know
Parents need to know that Pizo Egypt is an interactive game that takes kids on a virtual Egyptian journey. Kids travel through a desert by camel, boat, and flying carpet all while completing jigsaw and logic puzzles. They earn points for collecting gems -- which can be tricky -- but can lose them all to thieves. If this happens at any stage of the game, kids have to completely start over, which is a frustrating feature. What kids can learn
The colorful scenes will draw kids in and they'll have fun collecting gems and escaping danger, though it's frustrating when the gems are stolen. The game is very linear, which could become dull over time.
Kids are exposed to a variety of puzzles and vocabulary words. It would be great if they could view progress and avoid starting the game over if they're caught by the jewel thief.
The interactivity is intuitive, but preschoolers may struggle with the game controls.
What's it about?
In Pizo Egypt, the adventure begins with scene in which a thief steals a basket of gems. Kids then select an avatar, and the avatar appears in an Egyptian desert. They tap the avatar to make it walk through the desert and control the avatar as it rides a camel, a flying carpet, and a boat. Tapping faster increases speed so kids can escape the jewel thief and other dangers, and swiping makes the camel jump to collect gems. As kids travel through the desert, they encounter puzzles and collect gems to earn points.
Is it any good?
Kids will enjoy traveling through a colorful world, solving puzzles and escaping dangers, but it's bound to be frustrating if they are caught by a jewel thief and have to start the game over. The jigsaw and logic puzzles are engaging and age-appropriate, and learning a bit about Egyptian culture is pretty neat. The cheerful graphics and point-valued gems are motivating, as is the challenge of avoiding the jewel thief. However, while the controls are fairly straightforward, younger kids could have difficulty coordinating them all throughout the game; jumping to get gems is particularly tricky and it's easy to miss some. They also might grow bored with the repetition of activities, as there's little variation.
Families can talk about...

Families can talk about the vocabulary words from the game. Have kids make flashcards with the word in the front and a picture on the back.
-
Talk about kids' favorite logic puzzle and have them create their own using paper and colored pencils for you to solve.
-
Discuss Egyptian culture and what kids find most interesting about it. If possible, find out more using maps, books, or online resources.
