Echoing what worked well for its predecessor, Tomato World 2 is a fun but tricky platformer. It's not particularly revolutionary in execution, but you'll be surprised at how keen you’ll be when it comes to completing it.
One touch controls are evident here. While running is conducted automatically, you can control when the little tomato jumps with a quick tap. Hold it down slightly longer and you jump further. It's a simple concept but one that can be used to good effect here. Mostly everything can hurt our hero, meaning your timing has to be spot on.
Besides needing to jump over various chasms, there are spikes in your way, ready and keen to squash the poor fruit. Enemies also appear and, while you can jump on some of them, others are much more dangerous. Not everything is dangerous, though. You can bounce off of springs, propelling yourself skyward. You can also leap into catapults, again flying through the air.
Each level is fairly short which is handy, as they turn difficult fast. That suits mobile gaming well though, as in theory, you can achieve a lot in a short amount of time. You’re not restricted by limited lives or aiming for a high score either. The joy is on the journey, although do expect that journey to be disrupted occasionally by adverts. The downside here is one that afflicted the first game though, you're going to be keen to blitz right through everything at speed. Once you do, there's little reason to replay Tomato World 2.
Tomato World 2 is a taster session of tough platforming, and for that it succeeds. While it's perhaps not as distinctive as it could be, it's still an entertaining enough delight while it lasts.
