Plastiland Review

Lemmings was a great game, wasn't it? The makers of Plastiland obviously thought so because this title is a lot like Lemmings, only with balls of plasticine rather than suicidal rodents. It's pretty good, too.

As the set of tutorials demonstrate, Plastiland is easy to learn. You tap on one of the plasticine balls and a radial menu pops up, offering up various options relating to the level. You can enable the ball to dig through obstacles, either sideways or downwards. You can turn it into a soccer ball, meaning it can fall a fair distance without any trouble. You can create bridges, blocks, and so forth. It's all very typical of the Lemmings style way of doing things, and you'll be surprised at how much character can be included in those pieces of plasticine.

Plastiland's beauty is that each level is quite small, meaning it's ideal to dip into for short periods. As you progress, things get trickier, but it's fun to figure out. There might only be eight different things that your plasticine can turn into, but they can be combined to be quite enough. You come across portals that affect where you go next, as well as the peril of sleeping bombs, plus chasms that need avoiding. One thing to note is to keep track of the direction the plasticine is going in as that affects when you should activate a move. It can be tricky when lots of things are going on at once, but there's a pause button to help you out.

Simple to use controls mean you rarely feel too frustrated however, and that $2.99 price point buys you everything, rather than being backed up by in-app purchases. Bonus levels further add to your reasons to keep on playing.

A well made homage to Lemmings, Plastiland is pretty entertaining and a worthy addition for puzzle fans.
