One touch is all that's needed to get anywhere in Blokshot Revolution, but that doesn't mean it's easy – not by any means. Instead, it's a fairly challenging arcade style shooter game that offers some great ideas. It does get a little repetitive in time, though.
Blocks are slowly coming down the screen and you need to stop them from hitting the bottom. You do this by shooting at them. The unique thing about Blokshot Revolution is how you shoot them though. Rather than just tapping, you hold your finger down on a circle at the bottom, then release it at the right given moment in order to fling the projectile in the correct direction. It's kind of like using a slingshot with the longer you hold your finger down, the more power that's gained.
It's a mechanic that takes a few attempts to get the hang of, but without it, Blokshot Revolution would be far too samey and dull. After a time, if you manage to accrue a combo of repeated successes, you gain a triple shot power up for as long as you maintain the combo. That's a particularly satisfying move to acquire, although don't expect to gain it straight away.
However, that's as far as Blokshot Revolution gets in terms of innovation. There aren't any other power-ups to gain or things to unlock. Instead, the satisfaction comes from high score chasing. Blokshot Revolution has all the other requisite elements, such as a cool soundtrack that fits the game well, and it's got a great minimalist style, but you might start to wish there was a little more going on.
Blokshot Revolution relies so heavily on its interesting way of shooting that it can only go so far in terms of keeping you hooked.
