Blockwick 2 isn't going to be a game that you finish quickly. It might potentially be a game that you'll never be able to finish, but that doesn't stop it from being hugely enjoyable to try. At its simplest it's a sliding block puzzle game, but it feels like more than just that. It encapsulates just what works so well on the App Store.
What works so well, in case you hadn't already noticed, is minimalist presentation, great use of touch controls, and that 'just one more go' factor. Blockwick 2 has all of those features, much like its predecessor.
You start out by simply moving blocks around, attempting to match the colors to each other. They only have to touch for you to succeed but sometimes that's not exactly easy. Blockwick 2 eases you in fairly gently. There's no need for a tutorial really, but it teaches you the basics through experimentation. For instance, there are glyphs that can be illuminated, thereby giving you a further sense of satisfaction than simply connecting the blocks together.
For those who are stuck, you can find a pearl on the floor and opt to skip that level, moving onto the next. Blockwick 2 is reasonably well balanced though, so you probably want to avoid doing that. Everything is a learning curve, after all.
Just as you've got the hang of the basics, Blockwick 2 starts adding new block types, such as sticky blocks, and caterpillar blocks. It makes things harder but still, you'll want to succeed.
Like any good puzzle game, Blockwick 2 is great because you'll find yourself chipping away at each level. Step away for a few minutes and you'll return with fresh eyes and a better perspective on how to succeed. With no time limits or scores to worry about – and no pesky in-app purchases – Blockwick 2 is simply very satisfying. It'll easily eat away at your free time.
